The Groundling is a play in two acts by Marc Palmieri. The play is a play in itself, it’s about Bob and Karen and their unhappy life, where they contantly arguing with each other. My concept for the cover and the inlay was “trapped”.
Bob and karen are trapped in their world, in the space and time, in their habits, in their fights but also in the play itself. I used the garage, where the play never moves away from, as a metaphor for their prison to life. In the book and cover i try to describe this feeling of being trapped and how they try to get out, but they can’t before Bob writes the play and when they decide to divorce.
The Groundling är en pjäs i två akter av Marc Palmieri. Pjäsen är en pjäs i sig själv och handlar om Bob och Karens olyckliga liv där de konstant bråkar. Mitt ledord för omslaget och inlagan var fångad. Bob och Karen är fångade i en tid, i deras vanor, i deras gräl, men också i pjäsen själv – i garaget där pjäsen utspelar sig. Jag använder garaget som en matafor för deras gängelse till liv. Hur de försöker komma ut från det utan att lyckas. Inte förän Bob bestämmer sig för att skriva en pjäs om sitt och Karens liv. Först då inser de vad de har för relation och bestämmer sig för att skiljas, vilket i deras fall är något possetivt, en frigörelse från instängdheten.
